Ching-Yune Sylvester

Ching-Yune C. Sylvester 

Ching-Yune is a cognitive psychologist who served in various research and administrative roles at the University of Michigan for 20+ years and recently started her own coaching and consulting practice. She works with clients to align their professional and personal lives with their values, identities, and strengths, resulting in a greater sense of fulfillment and balance. Coaching provides the structure and accountability that supports reflection, problem solving, and goal attainment. 

  While at UM, Ching-Yune worked with undergraduate students, faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and administrators across the University. Her expertise includes advising and mentoring, conflict resolution, faculty professional development, and program management, all with a DEI focus. She has particularly enjoyed working with scholars of color and other minoritized and marginalized groups, especially those engaged with and leading diversity and social justice endeavors. 

  Ching-Yune has held positions in ADVANCE, CEW+ (for the Women of Color in the Academy Project), LSA Office of the Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Education, and the National Center for Institutional Diversity (NCID). She earned her Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of California at Berkeley, and is certified as an executive coach by Michigan Medicine and the Academy for Creative Coaching (ACC). Additional relevant education includes completion of Co-Active Training Institute (CTI), Positive Intelligence (PQ), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Social Justice Mediation training.
