Lyonel is passionate about helping others make their dreams come true. He has held many titles over the years but what has never changed is his desire to help students, faculty and staff access resources, including himself, to realize their full potential.  

One of Lyonel’s favorite quotes was given to him as a framed gift when he assumed a new leadership role, “ a leader’s job is to look into the future and see the organization not as it is, but as it can be”.

Lyonel’s coaching  philosophy builds upon this gem, “it’s a huge honor to be someone’s coach and my job is to help the leader identify and utilize the tools they need to become the leader they aspire to be in the future, not the one they see in the mirror today.”

Lyonel brings over 25 years of experience in higher education to his role as an executive coach. He has held various positions at the University of Michigan providing leadership in the areas of: change management, strategic planning, crisis management, recruiting and retention, alumni and donor relations, project management, pre-college programming, enrollment management, and student affairs.

Lyonel was certified through the Michigan Medicine Executive Coaching program.  His educational background includes a BBA in Marketing from Eastern Michigan University and a Master’s degree in Higher and Postsecondary Education from the University of Michigan.

Outside of work and coaching, Lyonel enjoys attending sporting events, reading self improvement books, hanging out at the beach, watching tv crime dramas, grilling outdoors, and spending time with his friends and family.
